In Preparation for Vote on Health Insurance Reform, Rep. Foster Listened to Constituents, Organizations and Businesses in More Than 150 Events and Meetings

Washington, Nov 5 - Since the beginning of 2009, Rep. Bill Foster (IL-14) has held 151 meetings and events about health insurance reform with constituents, organizations and businesses in his district in order to give the people he represents an opportunity to share their ideas and concerns about the pending legislation. The list of events appears below.

The House is expected to vote on H.R. 3962, The Affordable Health Care for America Act this week. As of today, Foster has already logged 43 hours reading and analyzing the legislation since the bill’s text was made available exactly one week ago on Thursday, October 29.


Foster’s Health Insurance Reform Events:

November 5: Meetings with Constituents from Across the District
Foster met with constituents from West Chicago, Geneva, St. Charles and Shabbona who traveled to Washington, DC to participate in the “Hands of Our Health Care!” rally led by Rep. Michele Bachmann. The constituents discussed their concerns about health insurance reform with the Congressman.

October 21: Meeting with Representatives from Abbott
Foster met with representatives from Abbott in his Washington, DC office to discuss pending health insurance legislation.

October 19: Telephone Town Hall on Health Insurance Reform
Foster held his third telephone town hall, calling more than 86,000 households in the district, and more than 17,000 constituents participated in the discussion about health insurance reform. In his three telephone town halls combined, Foster called every household in the 14th District with a registered voter and a telephone.

October 16: Meeting with Constituents from Geneva
Foster met with a couple from Geneva in his Washington, DC office to discuss the pending health insurance legislation, and to voice their opinions on the issue.

October 15: Meeting with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists
Foster met with representatives from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists, including a member from Sycamore, to listen to their concerns about health care as it relates to physical therapists and their patients.

October 14: Meeting with Cardiology Advocacy Alliance
Foster met with representatives from the Cardiology Advocacy Alliance in his Washington, DC office, including members with offices in Geneseo, Rock Island, Geneva and Bartlett, to discuss health insurance reform measures, including imaging access and reimbursement and the proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

October 14: Meeting with Enhanced Medical Imaging and Association for Quality Imaging
Foster met with representatives from Enhanced Medical Imaging and Association for Quality Imaging in his Washington, D.C. office. (Enhanced Medical Imaging is located in Elgin.) The groups expressed their thoughts on proposed Medicare reimbursement cuts to diagnostic imaging services and alternatives for these cuts.

October 9: Meeting with B2B Live
Foster met with to B2B Live in Batavia, a group of business owners from throughout the Fox Valley about a variety of issues, including health care.

October 7: Meeting with Constituent from St. Charles
Foster met with a constituent from St. Charles, who is also a Pfizer employee. The constituent shared both his own personal views on health insurance reform as well as Pfizer’s views on the issue.

October 5: Spoke to DeKalb Building Trades
Foster spoke to the monthly meeting of the DeKalb Building Trades monthly meeting about health insurance reform in Sycamore.

October 3: Congress on Your Corner in Batavia
Foster held a session of Congress on Your Corner in Batavia, where constituents have an opportunity to meet with him, without appointment, to discuss a topic of their choice. Many constituents discussed their thoughts in regard to health insurance reform.

October 2: Meeting with NorthStar Nuclear Medicine, LLC and Elected Officials from Plano
Foster met with executives from NorthStar Nuclear Medicine, LLC and elected officials from Plano about advances in diagnostic and therapeutic radioisotopes in his Batavia office.

September 26: Congress on Your Corner in Aurora
Foster held a session of Congress on Your Corner in Aurora, where constituents have an opportunity to meet with him, without appointment, to discuss a topic of their choice. Many constituents discussed their thoughts in regard to health insurance reform.

September 24: Meeting with Illinois Education Association and National Education Association Directors
Foster met with members of the Illinois Education Association and National Education Association Directors in his Washington, DC office. The groups discussed health care and education policy with the Congressman.

September 24: Meeting with Baxter Executives
Foster met with executives of Baxter in his Washington, DC office to discuss the pending health care legislation.

September 23: Meeting with Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society
Foster met with constituents who are members of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society in his Washington, DC office. The group discussed recommendations for reforming health care through health information technology (IT).

September 23: Meeting with Pharmaceutical Printed Literature Association
Foster met with members of the Pharmaceutical Printed Literature Association, one of which is a constituent from Batavia, in his Washington, DC office. The group discussed a proposed paperless prescription information system, and how it will affect the company.

September 22: Meeting with American Cancer Society – Cancer Action Network
Foster met with a constituent from Montgomery who is a member of the American Cancer Society – Cancer Action Network in his Washington, DC office to discuss pending health insurance reform.

September 21: Telephone Town Hall with HHS Secretary Sebelius
Foster held his second telephone town hall with special guest, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. He called more than 67,000 households in the district, and more than 11,000 constituents participated in the discussion about health insurance reform.

September 18: Tour of HCR-ManorCare in Elgin
Foster toured HCR-ManorCare in Elgin, and representatives from the facility, including constituents from Elgin, South Elgin and Carpentersville, discussed the effect that budget cuts would have for skilled nursing facilities.

September 16: Healthcare Leadership Council Reception and Expo
Foster attended the Healthcare Leadership Council Reception and Expo in Washington, DC, where he reviewed displays about cutting-edge health care technologies and treatments.

September 16: Meeting with Illinois Farm Bureau
Foster met with members of the Illinois Farm Bureau, some of which are constituents from Dixon, in his Washington, DC office. The group discussed a number of topics, including the proposed health insurance reform.

September 16: Meeting with Illinois Pork Producers Association
Foster met with members of the Illinois Pork Producers Association in his Washington, DC office to discuss various issues, including the proposed health insurance reform.

September 16: Meeting with National Farmers Union
Foster met with members of the National Farmers Association in his Washington, DC office to discuss a variety of issues, including the proposed health insurance reform.

September 15: Meeting with the International Franchising Association – BFC
Foster met with a member of the International Franchising Association - BFC, who is a constituent from Geneva, in his Washington, DC office. He discussed issues impacting small businesses, including the proposed health insurance reform.

September 15: Meeting with American College of Cardiology
Foster met with a constituent from Geneva, who is a cardiologist and member of the American College of Cardiology, in his Washington, DC office. He discussed the proposed health insurance reform and how it would impact cardiologists.

September 10: Meeting with Wheaton Eye Clinic
Foster met with a constituent and doctor from Warrenville, representing Wheaton Eye Clinic, in his Washington, DC office. He expressed his concerns about the proposed health insurance reform legislation.

September 4: Meeting with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois
Foster met with representatives of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois in his Batavia office to discuss the pending health insurance reform legislation.

September 2: Telephone Town Hall on Health Insurance Reform
Foster held his first telephone town hall. He called more than 78,000 households in the district, and nearly 14,000 constituents participated in the discussion about health insurance reform.

September 2: Meeting with Main Street Alliance, Health Care for America Now, Citizen Action- Illinois
Foster met with Main Street Alliance, Health Care for America Now, Citizen Action - Illinois in his Batavia office. The group of small business owners, which included constituents from West Chicago and Elgin, discussed their desire to make sure the public health insurance option remains available to small businesses and others who currently have insufficient access to affordable health care.

September 2: Tour Fox Valley Orthopaedic Associates
Foster toured both the North and South buildings at the Fox Valley Orthopaedic Associates in Geneva to see the facility and meet with the physicians.

September 1: Meeting with AFL-CIO Statewide Leaders
Foster met with AFL-CIO statewide leaders in his Batavia office, a group which included representatives from AFL-CIO, Painters, UAW, SEIU, IFT, AFSCME and Machinists Local 126. The group discussed a variety of federal issues, including health insurance reform.

August 31: Meeting with Regional Health Information Networks
Foster met with a representative of the Regional Health Information Networks in his Batavia office to discuss electronic medical records and clinical databases, Regional Health Information Networks and health care centers of excellence.

August 31: Spoke to Elgin League of Women Voters
Foster spoke with the Elgin League of Women Voters about a variety of issues, including health insurance reform.

August 28: Attended McKesson Grand Opening and Tour
Foster attended the grand opening of the McKesson distribution center in Aurora, and toured the facility. McKesson is a health care services company.

August 27: Meeting with Constituent from North Aurora
Foster met with a constituent from North Aurora in his Batavia office. The constituent is a registered nurse, and discussed health insurance reform and her ideas for improving health information technology.

August 27: Meeting with Constituent from Warrenville
Foster met with a constituent from Warrenville in his Batavia office to discuss her ideas about the proposed health insurance reform, namely a phased approach to reform.

August 27: Meeting with Constituent from Aurora
Foster met with a constituent from Aurora in his district office. The constituent, who has cancer and recently lost his job, discussed the need for health insurance reform.

August 27: Meeting with Constituent from St. Charles
Foster met with a constituent from St. Charles, who works in the insurance industry, in his Batavia office to discuss the pending health insurance reform.

August 27: Meeting with Constituent with Multiple Sclerosis
Foster met with a constituent from Geneva with multiple sclerosis in his Batavia office to discuss the pending health insurance reform.

August 27: Meeting with Illinois Healthcare Access Network
Foster met with representatives from the Illinois Healthcare Access Network in his Batavia office to discuss health insurance reform, particularly the recent agreement reached to help Medicare Part D beneficiaries who have struggled with the coverage gap, as well as biologics.

August 27: Meeting with Independent Insurance Broker
Foster met with a constituent from Dundee who is an independent insurance broker in his Batavia office. The constituent discussed the impact of health insurance reform on small business, as well as health insurance reform in general.

August 27: Meeting with DuPage County Medical Society
Foster met with members of the DuPage County Medical Society in his Batavia office. The group discussed their concerns with the proposed health insurance reform.

August 27: Tour of Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center in St. Charles
Foster toured the Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center in St. Charles, the leading provider of outpatient surgical care in the Fox Valley.

August 26: Tour of Fox Valley Oncology and Hematology
Foster toured Fox Valley Oncology and Hematology in Elgin, and met with doctors and patients.

August 24: Tour of KSB Hospital in Dixon
Foster toured KSB hospital in Dixon, and also met with administrators.

August 22: Tour of Fox Valley Dialysis in Aurora
Foster toured the facility of Fox Valley Dialysis in Aurora, and learned about the facility’s equipment. He also met with patients who were receiving dialysis.

August 6: Participated in Reach Out and Read in Elgin
Foster read to children in the waiting room of the Greater Elgin Family Care Center, and then toured the facility in Elgin.

August 3: Meeting with Constituent from St. Charles
Foster met with an independent insurance agent from St. Charles in his Batavia office about a variety of topics, including the pending health insurance reform.
