Rep. Foster Votes Against Democratic Budget
Says No To Largest Tax Hike In History
Washington,
May 14, 2008 -
Bucking his party’s leadership and demonstrating his independence, Rep. Bill Foster (IL-14) today voted against the Democratic budget. He released the following statement:
“I voted against the Democratic budget because I simply cannot support a bill that contains a massive tax increase of $683 billion, the largest hike in the history of our country. Neither the Bush Administration nor the Democratic leadership has ever dealt honestly with the true cost of the war in Iraq.
The Democratic budget unfairly places a hefty tax burden on the backs of hard-working middle-class families, raising marginal rates for all workers. This misguided budget reinstates the marriage penalty and also eliminates the 10-percent tax bracket for low-income earners.
I cannot and will not vote for a budget that is not in the best interest of the families of the 14th Congressional District of Illinois.”
