Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (IL-11) announced that he will be bringing Crest Hill educator Tara Linney as his guest for the State of the Union. Linney's focus is teaching educators and students about computer technology and coding. Foster joined Linney at an Hour of Code event at Richland School District in December. The Hour of Code is a nationwide event encouraging students and adults to learn computer programing.

"I'm excited to be bringing Tara Linney as my guest for the State of the Union to highlight the importance of providing a strong education in technology for our students to give them the skills they need to succeed," said Foster. "As a scientist and businessman who built a career using computer programing, it's wonderful to see educators like Ms. Linney teaching these important skills. Learning computer science skills is essential for success in today's economy and should be a core part of our children's education."

"I am very honored by this opportunity to attend the State of the Union address, and to be a part of the discussion on future-ready schools. Integrating computer programming into the current curriculum is something that I am very passionate about, as it is a skill set that prepares students to be the creators and makers of jobs that don't even exist yet. This moonshot way of thinking and pursuing education is something that will prepare and propel our economy into the 21st Century and beyond," said Linney.
