Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (IL-11), announced he will be bringing anti-heroin advocate Tim Ryan as his guest for the State of the Union address. Ryan is a former business entrepreneur, father, and former heroin addict. In addition to his personal struggles with recovery, Ryan lost his 20 year old son from a heroin overdose.
Ryan now dedicates his life to helping individuals and families struggling with addiction through A Man In Recovery Foundation and the Banyan Treatment Center.
“Tim has been a tireless advocate, working to raise awareness and help individuals and families struggling with addiction, and I’m pleased to be bringing him as my guest for the State of the Union,” said Foster. “Heroin and opioid abuse has claimed far too many lives in our community -- we all should be doing more to raise awareness and break the cycle of addiction. I hope that in his speech, the President will address this growing epidemic and recognize the need to support the efforts of Tim and everyone fighting addiction. ”
“I am truly honored to be asked by Congressman Foster to be his guest at the State of the Union address,” said Ryan. “I'm focused on dropping the stigma, letting people know there is hope, and that we definitely need more resources allocated to treatment and long-term treatment versus incarceration.”
