Foster Condemns Trump Administration’s Attacks on Science

January 25, 2017

Washington, DC - I am deeply troubled by early reports that our scientific community is facing threats from the new presidential administration.

The Trump Administration has reportedly told the Environmental Protection Agency to remove scientifically valid references to climate change from their website. Their staff has also been instructed to freeze grants, which threatens to greatly stifle research and development. Scientists at the United States Department of Agriculture have also been banned from sharing their research with the public. All of these actions are an outright attack on the science and research we need to remain at the forefront of innovation and problem solving.

Democracies thrive when we have an open dialogue. Scientists in business, academia, and National Laboratories need the freedom to conduct scientific inquires without fear of persecution. I strongly urge this administration to end these policies immediately and support our scientific community and civil servants inside our government agencies.
