Foster Condemns Trump’s FY2018 Budget

Mar 16, 2017
Press Release

Washington, DC - This budget eliminates critical funding for science, education, and programs that keep Americans safe and healthy. It is hard to overstate how much damage this budget will do to our ability to remain at the forefront of innovation and problem solving. The proposed 31 percent cut in the Environmental Protection Agency will reduce our capacity to act on climate change. The nearly 20 percent cut to the National Institutes of Health will harm long term research on diseases like Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and opioid addiction. Meanwhile, it will increase the allocation for defense spending on systems and bases the Pentagon does not want or need. It’s not an attempt at fiscal responsibility. Instead, it will make it more difficult for hardworking Americans to make a better life for themselves and their children. Simply put, this budget is a slap in the face to our federal workers, scientists, doctors, teachers, and everyone who calls this country home.
