Foster Statement on Passage of CHOICE Act

June 8, 2017

Washington, D.C. - The CHOICE Act is a perfect example of the kind of legislation that caused the Great Recession, when millions of hard-working families lost their homes, jobs, and their hopes for economic security and well-being. In the emergency response to the financial crisis, I worked with Barney Frank and my other colleagues to make sure it would never happen again. I am very proud of our work on the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, because we need regulation and rules to prevent a similar collapse in the future. If the CHOICE Act becomes law, it would put our financial at risk for another crisis and the loss of economic security for millions of Americans. It would also eviscerate the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an organization designed to protect American taxpayers from abusive banking practices.
