Press Release: Foster Introduces American Innovation Act

March 16, 2017

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) introduced the American Innovation Act, a measure that would support the steady growth of federal investment in scientific and technological research.

The American Innovation Act would provide for an annual funding increase of five percent at five important federal research agencies: The Department of Energy Office of Science, The National Science Foundation, The Department of Defense Science and Technology Programs, The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Science Directorate, and The National Institute of Standards and Technology Scientific and Technical Research.

"Now more than ever we need to defend America's place as a world leader in scientific progress," Foster said. "Since World War II, investments in science and technology have helped the U.S. lead the world in new innovations, grow the economy, create millions of jobs, and provide critical advancements to our national security. The American Innovation Act will provide researchers with the support they need to maintain our role as global leaders in innovation."

Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) has introduced companion legislation in the U.S. Senate.
