Rep. Foster Calls For Comprehensive Immigration Reform In Joliet

April 6, 2013

Joliet, IL – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (IL-11) joined protesters in Joliet where he called for comprehensive immigration reform. Foster released the following statement on today’s rally:

“For years our immigration system has been left to rot. Our system depends too much on detention and deportation at a huge cost to governments and families. No one benefits when families are torn apart and children are left without a father or mother. We don’t need more detention centers, we need comprehensive immigration reform which includes background checks so we can deport violent criminals without needlessly tearing families apart.

“It is past time for Congress to take action to pass common sense immigration reform that provides a tough but fair path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country and a more secure and efficient system for legal immigration.

“The path to passing comprehensive immigration reform isn’t simple, and the final plan will likely contain some painful compromises. But when we create a path to citizenship for our friends, our family and our neighbors -- who are good, law abiding members of society who just want to build better lives for themselves and their families – we won’t need to build more detention centers, we’ll need to tear them down.”
