Foster Introduces Resolution to Establish National 3D Printing Day

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) introduced a House resolution to designate December 3 as National 3D Printing Day. The resolution would also recognize the positive economic impact of 3D printing in the United States and encourage the promotion and celebration of 3D printing technology.

"3D printing technology provides businesses and entrepreneurs in Illinois and across the country with state-of-the-art tools to compete in the world economy and bring new products to life," Foster said. "This is no longer a futuristic concept; it is tangible technology that a variety of industries, from bio-technology, to food production, to advanced manufacturing already use, and it will only grow stronger as the 3D printing industry continues to bring tools of innovation to communities everywhere."

By enabling rapid production of innovative products, 3D printing has the potential to create thousands of new businesses and jobs in the U.S. and give domestic companies an edge in global markets. The Department of Energy estimates that 3D printing could save 50 percent on energy costs compared to more traditional manufacturing processes.
