Foster Statement on COVID-19 Death Toll Passing 150,000

July 28, 2020

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement on the U.S. COVID-19 death toll passing 150,000 people:

"Five months after President Trump said the coronavirus would just "disappear," our nation marks 150,000 lives lost to COVID-19. Simply put, the President and his administration failed miserably to manage the coronavirus crisis and we are paying the price for their incompetence with the lives of our fellow citizens.

"Because of the tireless work of scientists and medical researchers, we will produce effective vaccines and therapeutic treatments to counter the scourge of COVID-19, but for the people of the United States it will be a bittersweet moment, as we reflect on the many tens of thousands of completely unnecessary deaths of Americans that have resulted from the failed leadership and deliberate purveyance of scientific falsehoods by President Trump and his administration."
