Foster Statement on EPA Reorganization
WASHINGTON, DC - I am deeply concerned about reports that the Environmental Protection Agency will eliminate the National Center for Environmental Research. From day one, this administration has sought to weaken and outright eliminate science departments and programs, and this reorganization is no different. It is irresponsible to the future of this country to use the guise of efficiency and reorganization as excuses to weaken scientific inquiry. It’s hard to imagine that these structural changes will actually improve the distribution of money for scientific research and education.
Since World War II, scientific research and innovation have contributed to economic growth. Environmental protections and regulations have protected our environment and made our world safer for all Americans. If the Trump Administration and Republicans cared about efficiency and economic growth, they would support scientific research and environmental protections that have improved the lives of Americans.
