Congress members push General Assembly on equal marriage

Seven Illinois members of Congress have sent a letters to the Illinois General Assembly, urging the passage of equal marriage legislation. Rep. Mike Quigley, Jan Schakowsky, Tammy Duckworth, Danny Davis, Bill Foster, Luis Gutierrez and Brad Schneider are among those pressing for the passage of the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act The letter argues that the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act will strengthen families and protect religious institutions. "For some time now, people have been talking about the problems we face in Illinois, but it is time that we start celebrating what Illinois is doing right," the letter states. Hundreds of clergy leaders, CEOs and business executives, and prominent members of the African-American and Latino communities have voiced their support for this legislation." Gutierrez also sent his own letter. He said the equal marriage helps bring families together. "I have two daughters and a grandson," he wrote.
