Foster Announces Brother James Gaffney as Guest for Pope Francis Address
Aurora, IL – Today, Congressman Bill Foster announced that Brother James Gaffney, FSC, will be his guest during Pope Francis’ historic address to the United States Congress on September 24, 2015. Gaffney will sit in the Gallery of the House Chamber for the Pope’s speech.
After serving as President of Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, for nearly 30 years, Brother Gaffney recently announced his retirement effective on June 30, 2016.
“Brother Gaffney has been a great steward of Lewis University and has made a major impact on our community,” Foster said. “He has shown great dedication not only to the students and faculty he leads, but also to Romeoville and the surrounding area. I look forward to sharing this historic moment with him.”
“I look forward to representing Lewis University on this occasion. Our University community already has been greatly impacted by Pope Francis, and I anticipate his historic address to Congress will both inspire and challenge us in providing a quality Catholic higher education,” commented Brother James.
