Foster Applauds Passage of Marriage Equality In Illinois
November 5, 2013
Naperville, IL – Today, Congressman Bill Foster released the following statement after the Illinois state legislature passed SB10, allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry:
"This is an important moment for civil rights in Illinois. I am very pleased that Illinois has joined 15 other states in allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry. Everyone – no matter who they are, where they came from, or who they love – deserves equal rights under the law."
"Now it's time to take action at the federal level by fully repealing DOMA and recognizing gay and lesbian marriage nationwide."
Foster is a co-sponsor of the Respect for Marriage Act which would fully repeal DOMA and provide a uniform rule for recognizing married couples for federal law purposes.
