Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (IL-11) joined House Democrats and members of Fast 4 Families on the steps of the capitol in calling on Congress to take action and pass comprehensive immigration reform.

"It is time to act," said Foster. "How much longer can Speaker Boehner continue to ignore the outcry of support from the business community, law enforcement, the religious community and people from all walks of life? The time is now to pass comprehensive immigration reform which secures our borders, improves our legal immigration system and provides a path to citizenship for the 11 million immigrants who are currently in limbo."

Foster has long been an advocate for comprehensive immigration reform and is a co-sponsor of H.R. 15, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act – a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would strengthen our borders, improve our legal immigration system and provide a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

H.R. 15 has been sponsored by 193 Members of Congress, including three Republicans.

A study done by the Institute of Taxation and Economic Policy showed that immigration reform would increase state and local taxes in Illinois by almost $150 million a year.

On the other hand, if all unauthorized immigrants were removed from Illinois, the state would lose $25.6 billion in economic activity, $11.4 billion in gross state product, and approximately 120,000 jobs.
