Foster Statement on the Passage of Republican Budget
Washington, DC - Today, I voted against a Republican budget proposal that would expand the national debt over $9.5 trillion and would begin the process to repeal the Affordable Care Act and defund Planned Parenthood. This budget resolution will have disastrous consequences for the American people. For seven years, Republicans have promised a better plan but have failed to provide any details of what that plan might entail. Instead, 30 million people are poised to lose their health insurance and are being asked to trust that the Republicans will do in a few weeks what they have not been able to do in seven years - craft a comprehensive replacement for the Affordable Care Act.
In Illinois, more than 1.1 million people gained coverage since the Affordable Care Act was passed, and they will lose their coverage under the Republican plan. This budget is an unfortunate example of politicians who care more about partisan games than the well-being of Americans.
