Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (IL-11) invited students from the 11th Congressional District to participate in the 2013 Congressional Art Competition. This year’s contest, entitled “An Artistic Discovery,” will feature young artists from across the country working in a variety of media.

The U.S. House of Representatives has been spotlighting the nation’s best student artists with a competition since 1982.  The winner will receive two roundtrip tickets to Washington, D.C. for the unveiling of their work, which will hang in the Capitol complex for the next year.  Three runners-up will be chosen and their artwork will be featured in Congressman Foster’s offices.

“It’s always a pleasure to see the talent and imagination of our district’s students,” Congressman Foster said. “The vibrancy of our nation’s artistic culture is limitless, and I’m excited to see what the next generation of creative students will come up with.”

The competition is open to any high school student from the 11th District.  Interested students should submit one original piece of two-dimensional work which should be no bigger than 28” x 28” x 4” when framed.

Entries can be submitted between March 11 and April 15, 2013. Contestants’ artwork will be displayed in a district gallery between April 20 and 27, ending with a reception where the winner and three runners-up will be announced.
