Rep. Foster Hosts Joliet Junior College Student Trustee for State of the Union
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (IL-11) announced that Keith Bryant, a student trustee at Joliet Junior College, will be his guest for the State of the Union address.
Joliet Junior College (JJC) is America’s first public community college. JJC provides vocational training, adult education and literacy programs and pre-baccalaureate courses.
Bryant is a nontraditional student who began studies at JJC after leaving a career in construction. Bryant is studying network system security and information technology and expects to graduate in May of 2014.
“I am honored to have Mr. Bryant as my guest for the State of the Union address,” said Foster. “His story serves as an important reminder of the need to invest in education and in training to equip workers with the skills needed to succeed in today’s economy. As we face potentially devastating cuts from the sequestration, I urge my colleagues in Congress to remember people like Mr. Bryant who are working to build a better future for their families and communities with training and education to get them on the path towards a career that will last.”
“I am honored to be invited to this historic event and to be the first student trustee of Joliet Junior College to attend the State of the Union,” said Bryant. “Joliet Junior College provides important programs for people like myself trying to build new careers and I’m proud to represent them here today.”
