Comey's Testimony: Local Representative Bill Foster Calls For Transparency
Following the testimony of former FBI Director James Comey Thursday, Illinois District 11 Representative Bill Foster (D) is calling for an aggressive investigation into any hints of obstruction of justice. In a statement, Foster stressed the importance of transparency and accountability from the U.S. President during the ongoing investigation into Russian hacking.
Foster said, "Former Director Comey’s testimony today is the first step in the right direction to uncover the facts. The President’s request for loyalty is disconcerting. The Federal Bureau of Investigation must remain independent of politics and free from outside influence. Any indications of obstruction of justice must be aggressively investigated.
It’s also clear we need a truly independent outside investigation, conducted by a commission or independent prosecutor, along with vigorous Congressional investigations to get to the bottom of Russian influence in our recent election. The President of the United States must never be comprised and must operate with full accountability and transparency in the interests of the United States."
