Foster Announces $225 Million in Funding for Brandon Road Project
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has allocated $225 million for the Brandon Road Project to prevent invasive Asian Carp from reaching the Great Lakes.
"The Brandon Road Lock and Dam is the last line of defense for preventing invasive Asian Carp from reaching Lake Michigan and all of the tributaries and lakes in the Great Lakes basin," Foster said. "That's why supporting the Brandon Road Project has always been one of my most important priorities. Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Army Corps of Engineers finally has the resources it needs to finish planning and begin construction on this critical project that will help protect Illinois waterways and the entire Great Lakes region. I'm looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition."
In January of 2021, Congressman Foster and the Great Lakes Task Force asked the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to prioritize the Brandon Road Project.
In July of 2018, Foster hosted Members of the then Republican-controlled Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for a tour of the Brandon Road site to explain its importance and build support for the project. The Brandon Road site is located in Foster's IL-11 District.
The Biden Administration announced today that the Army Corps of Engineers will invest $14 billion in 500 projects across the nation that focus on strengthening critical supply chains. These new investments will create jobs and economic opportunity, while strengthening key water infrastructure projects, improving resiliency to the climate crisis, and restoring the environment.
The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act was signed by President Biden on November 15, 2021.
