Foster Announces $3.5 Million in Research Funding for Argonne National Laboratory
Lemont, IL - Today, Congressman Bill Foster released the following statement after the Department of Energy announced that Argonne National Laboratory, located in Illinois' 11th Congressional District, was awarded $3,484,765 in clean energy research funding. The funding, which was made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will support targeted research and development to enhance the cybersecurity of distributed energy resources.
"As a scientist and businessman who has designed and built software-controlled electric power subsystems, I'm thrilled that Argonne National Laboratory was awarded nearly $3.5 million in funding to develop cybersecurity software to help bring our energy infrastructure into the 21st century," said Foster. "Ensuring our energy resources are protected against malicious actors is essential to enhancing the reliability of the grid that powers our daily lives."
Illinois' 11th Congressional District includes Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, where Foster, the only PhD physicist in Congress, worked for over two decades. In 2022, Foster received the Wilson Prize from the American Physical Society for his work in particle physics at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.
