Foster Announces Nearly $1.5 Million Award for the University of St. Francis

June 21, 2019

JOLIET, IL – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) announced that the University of St. Francis (USF) will receive an award from the Department of Health and Human Services in the amount of $1,452,947. The funding will be provided through the Advanced Nursing Education Workforce (ANEW) program to support academic clinical partnerships to educate and provide primary and mental health care in rural and underserved communities.

"The University of St. Francis' partnership with the Will County Community Health Center provides a unique opportunity for students of USF to receive high-quality clinical experience while benefiting the entire community," Foster said. "I am pleased that the University of St. Francis will use this award to support the expansion of medical accessibility in rural and underserved areas. Where someone lives should not be a barrier to quality health care, and USF is taking steps to ensure that all members of our community have access to medical care - including mental health care - when they need it."

"Thanks to this funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the University of St. Francis and the Will County Community Health Center will partner to expand the availability of primary care and mental health services for residents of Will County while enhancing educational opportunities for our students," said USF President Arvid Johnson. "We are the Joliet region's university, and this is a prime example of how government entities and higher education institutions can collaborate to benefit the citizens of the communities they serve."
