Foster Introduces Resolution to Promote Science Diplomacy

May 17, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) introduced a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives to promote science diplomacy. The resolution calls for greater international cooperation, while seeking new ways to advance scientific research and innovation.

"Science provides a common language through which scientists from different countries and backgrounds can come together and work toward a common goal and solve complex problems," Foster said. "As a scientist, I spent more than two decades working with colleagues from around the globe at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois. That international collaboration transcended national boundaries and allowed us to better understand each other and the world around us. It's important that we continue to promote the benefits of international cooperation in the sciences, breaking down boundaries and helping a new generation of scientists to pursue collaborative scientific work that makes the world a better place for all."

Before running for office, Congressman Foster worked for over 20 years as a high-energy particle physicist at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois, managing several multimillion-dollar projects for accelerator construction and research.

In Congress, he represents Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, Illinois.
