Foster Statement on Bipartisan Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act:
“I traveled to Washington, D.C. today to help make sure this third coronavirus response package passed, and I am glad that Congress continues to enact strong, bipartisan relief measures to help the American people in the midst of this unprecedented crisis.
“This emergency funding will help make sure hospitals and health care workers on the front lines of the pandemic have the necessary equipment they need to protect themselves and treat patients. It will deliver crucial financial help for small businesses that have been devastated and allow them to keep employees on payroll and remain in business. It will put money directly into the hands of hardworking Americans who are struggling to make ends meet, as well as enhance unemployment insurance for those whose jobs have been or will be lost. And, it will provide federal aid to states like Illinois so we can effectively manage this crisis and protect the public health.
“This isn’t a perfect bill, and it won’t be the last action we’ll need to take as we continue to fight the spread of COVID-19 and support economic recovery – but it’s a strong step towards helping those who are hurting right now and cannot afford to wait.”
