Foster Statement on Emergency Border Funding

June 25, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation to provide $4.5 billion in emergency appropriations to address the humanitarian crisis at the Southern border:

"I voted for this emergency funding because the Trump administration's cruel and ineffective immigration policies have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis at our Southern border," Foster said. "This bill would provide urgently needed humanitarian assistance, including funding to provide migrants with food, water, medical supplies, and legal assistance. It will also provide resources to alleviate overcrowding and establish much needed oversight of the treatment and well-being of migrants, especially unaccompanied children. It's critical that we get these resources to the border as soon as possible and start reversing the damage President Trump's dangerous policies have already caused."
