Foster Statement on House Passage of Justice in Policing Act

June 25, 2020

Washington, DCTonight, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act:

"I was proud to vote for the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. It is past time for us to take these first transformational steps to achieve structural change in our criminal justice system and combat police brutality.

"Americans of all backgrounds have come together to demand immediate action to increase transparency in law enforcement and hold abusive police officers accountable for their actions. I'm proud to stand with those calling for an end to racial injustice and systemic racial discrimination throughout society, and I am proud that the House took up legislation that includes meaningful reforms to enhance accountability and save lives. We have a lot of work to do to address systemic racism and discrimination and the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act is a strong first step."
