Foster Statement on House Passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act

March 4, 2021

Washington, D.C.- Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement on last night's passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act:

"I was proud to vote for the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. It is past time for us to take these first steps to achieve structural change in our criminal justice system and combat police brutality.

"Americans of all backgrounds are demanding action to increase transparency in law enforcement and hold abusive police officers accountable for their actions. I'm proud to continue to stand with those calling for an end to racial injustice and systemic racial discrimination. This legislation includes meaningful reforms to enhance accountability and save lives, and I strongly urge the Senate to bring this bill up for a vote. We have a lot of work to do to address systemic racism and discrimination in this country - the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act is a strong first step."
