Foster Statement on Opening of 117th Congress

Press Release

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement on the opening of the 117th Congress:

"I am honored to represent the people of the 11th Congressional District of Illinois for another term. In just a matter of days, a new President will be sworn in and an administration that believes in science-driven policies will get to work, and I am ready to work with them to tackle the issues that the people sent us to Washington to address.

"It's time to turn the page on the incompetence that has defined the outgoing President's response to the pandemic from the beginning of this crisis. As a Member of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, our government's management of this crisis will continue to be a major focus, especially as vaccine deployment continues over the next several months.

"The new Congress must also do more to help hardworking Americans and families mitigate the economic consequences of the past year and lay the groundwork to build an economy that is stronger and fairer than before. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the House Financial Services Committee and the new administration to do just that.

"In addition, and no less important, we need to protect and strengthen the Affordable Care Act, tackle comprehensive immigration reform, address climate change, and pursue common sense legislation to combat the gun violence epidemic that is still plaguing our nation.

"There is no time to waste, it's time to get back to work."

Congressman Foster has represented the 11th Congressional District of Illinois since 2013. In the House of Representatives, Foster serves on the Financial Services Committee, the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, and the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis.
