Foster Statement on the Temporary End of Trump Shutdown

Jan 25, 2019
Press Release

AURORA, IL - Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement on the agreement to end the 35 day government shutdown:

“On behalf of all the hardworking families and 800,000 federal workers who were hurt by this shutdown, I would like to express relief that we have finally found a temporary solution to reopen the government. In the end, the Trump shutdown was useless and accomplished nothing except provoking economic hardship, anxiety, and uncertainty in the lives of hardworking Americans. The author of “The Art of the Deal” did not strike a deal; he simply agreed to support essentially the same legislation that Congress passed over one month ago. We now need to get to work to pass a long-term funding solution that does not waste taxpayer money on a useless border wall. It’s also time for the President and Congressional Republicans to make sure that they do not inflict more harm on hardworking families after the three week deadline passes.”
