Foster Statement on Trump’s 2020 Budget

March 11, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement on the Trump Administration's proposed budget for fiscal year 2020:

"Once again, President Trump fails to understand how disastrous his budget proposal would be for hardworking Americans, scientific research and education, and the future of our country. After he triggered the longest government shutdown in history, the President continues to demand funding for his wasteful border wall while cutting $845 billion from Medicare, a program that the President said he would protect. This budget would also severely cut science and research budgets. The President's proposed cuts to the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Energy's Office of Science that funds Argonne National Laboratory and Fermilab National Accelerator Laboratory, and National Science Foundation would severely hurt our reputation as a leader in scientific research and innovation. The good news is that House Democrats have the power to stop the President's damaging budgets cuts and establish a budget that reflects the priorities of hardworking Americans."
