Foster Statement on State of the Union Address
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) released the following statement on President Biden's State of the Union Address:
“Last night, President Biden made a strong case for continuing the American success story that has happened under his leadership.
"Over 15 million jobs have been created, 16 million small businesses have started up, unemployment remains near record lows, and inflation has been steadily falling from its pandemic peaks. We still have a lot of work to do to lower food and housing costs, but America’s economic recovery continues to lead our global counterparts. And America has regained the moral leadership of the free world.
“In the 11th District, the President’s ironclad support for unions was crucial to our efforts to save the Belvidere Assembly Plant, keeping hundreds of good-paying union jobs in Illinois, and bringing billions of dollars in new investment to the Belvidere community. I was proud to work with the Administration, Governor Pritzker, Congressman Sorensen, UAW leaders, and local officials to make sure the Assembly Plant remained the beating heart of Belvidere for decades to come.
“As someone with firsthand experience building a successful high-tech manufacturing company that kept its jobs in the Midwest rather than offshoring them to China, I’m especially proud of how President Biden has focused on boosting domestic manufacturing.
“Our nation is in an unquestionably stronger place than it was four years ago thanks to the competent leadership of the Biden Administration.”
Bill Foster is a scientist and businessman representing the 11th Congressional District of Illinois.
