Foster Statement Supporting Updated USMCA Trade Agreement
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement in support of the updated United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA):
"I support and will vote for the updated USMCA trade agreement that is a major improvement over the unenforceable and deeply flawed deal initially proposed by the Trump Administration. House Democrats negotiated and fought for vital changes, including enhancing enforcement for violations of labor standards, increasing environmental protections, and removing provisions that would have raised the cost of prescription drugs for American families.
"As we work tirelessly to carry out our constitutionally mandated oversight obligations, we work just as hard to deliver legislation that benefits all Americans, and this state-of-the-art trade agreement is an example of just that. The USMCA brings a 25-year-old trade agreement into the 21st Century and should serve as a template for bipartisan consensus in future trade agreements."
