Foster Votes to Protect Access to Contraception

July 21, 2022

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Right to Contraception Act to enshrine access to contraception into federal law:

"It's unthinkable that, in 2022, Congress must vote to protect access to contraception. Yet, in his concurring opinion, Justice Thomas emboldened extreme lawmakers in their continued attempts to exert power and control over women's bodily autonomy – including the right to use and access contraception.

"Contraception is fundamental to our right to autonomy, and a core tenet of basic preventive health care that millions of people rely upon. Today, I was proud to vote for the Right to Contraception Act, which would enshrine the right to access and use contraception into federal law.

"As long as I have a vote in Congress, I will fight to protect the right to make personal, private health care decisions for women in every state."
