Washington, DC—Today, Congressman Bill Foster (IL-11) voted against H.R. 3, which would circumvent the approval process for the Keystone XL Pipeline.
"I am not opposed, in principle, to the building of the Keystone XL pipeline, and today's determination by the Nebraska Supreme Court was a step in that direction. I look forward to the completion of the regulatory approval process for this project. However, I voted against this legislation because it would give Keystone XL an unnecessary exemption from the environmental permitting processes," said Foster.

"While there were some provisions in this package that I do not support, I voted for the final bill because we cannot continue to govern from crisis to crisis," said Foster. "I am pleased that this bill preserves most essential funding for scientific research and development, increases funding to combat Ebola, increases funding for the National Institutes of Health, and preserves funding for Head Start and other essential programs."
Washington, DC – Today the House passed a provision, championed by Congressman Bill Foster, that would enable Argonne National Laboratory to save millions of dollars by finally removing on-site nuclear waste.
"This commonsense provision will save taxpayer dollars and allow Argonne to devote more funding to research and development," said Foster. "Research done at Argonne, and all of our national labs, is critical to maintaining our innovative edge in the global economy."
Yasha Mostofi, a senior at Naperville North High School, was named the inaugural winner of the 11th Congressional District House App Challenge, a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) academic competition.
"I think it's great that the House of Representatives is taking initiatives to promote STEM at the high school level," said Mostofi, 17. "Furthermore, winning this contest, and participating in it, has helped me realize that computer science and programming are what I want to do in the future."
Washington, DC -- Congressmen Bill Foster (IL-11) and Ted Deutch (FL-21) continued efforts to end the costly and inhumane practice of imposing arbitrary immigrant detention requirements by introducing an amendment to strike the detention bed mandate in the FY 15 Omnibus Appropriations Bill.
The Foster-Deutch amendment would strike language in the appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that requires Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to have at least 34,000 immigrants in detention at all times.
Washington, DC—Today, Congressmen Bill Foster (IL-11) introduced the Closing the Digital Divide for Students Act. This legislation would help low-income children compete at a high level with their peers by providing internet access for students living in poverty.

Congressman Bill Foster (IL-11) and Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) voted to pass the National Defense Authorization Act for FY2015 in the House of Representatives. The bill included a provision crafted by Congressman Kinzinger and Congressman Foster, which allows Will County to continue using the Prairie View Landfill through 2041.
Located south of Joliet and operated by Waste Management, the Prairie View Landfill accepts waste from Will County homes and businesses as well as debris from the Army's remediation activities at the Joliet Arsenal.
