Aurora, IL - Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) hosted a panel on climate change with leading experts on environmental policy and meteorology. An estimated 400 people attended the event.

The panel featured Tom Skilling, WGN Chief Meteorologist, Doug Sisterson, Research Meteorologist at Argonne National Lab, and Mary Gade, President of Gade Environmental Group. The panel discussed the need to take action on climate change and the effects it will have locally.

Aurora, IL – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) hosted the official ceremony to name the U.S. Post Office facility, located at 525 N. Broadway in Aurora, Illinois, as the Kenneth M. Christy Post Office Building.

Ken Christy was a dedicated public servant who spent over 35 years as a letter carrier for the Aurora Post Office. He also served as Aurora Township Clerk and as president of the Illinois State Association of Letter Carriers. He passed away suddenly on March 26, 2016.

Washington, DC – On Tuesday, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) led a letter to the House Rules Committee urging the end of the unilateral subpoena power of committee chairs in the 115th Congress.

At the start of the 114th Congress, several committees, including the Financial Services Committee, Energy and Commerce Committee, and the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, adopted new rules to give their chairs the authority to issue subpoenas without a vote.

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) praised funding included in the federal budget for science and public health crises. The continuing resolution allocates money for the Long Baseline Neutrino Facility at Fermilab located in Naperville, Illinois. The funding measure also includes $1.1 billion funding for Zika, and $37 million for opioid and heroin addiction treatment.

Naperville, IL – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) hosted an event on the science of opioid and heroin addiction. He was joined by a panel of experts in addiction science and treatment.

More than 50 people attended the discussion, which was held at Edward Hospital in Naperville. Several topics were discussed including the effect of opioids on brain function, new medical treatment options, and the best techniques for speaking with loved ones about addiction.

Last week, the Republican-controlled House Committee on Science held a hearing to discuss a contentious move it made during the summer — sending out subpoenas to state attorneys general who are conducting an investigation of ExxonMobil in relation to climate change. Eight environmental groups also received subpoenas.
