A new bill introduced in Congress would allow 403(b) plans maintained by tax-exempt organizations to make use of collective investment trust (CIT) investments—an alternative to mutual funds that may provide significant cost savings for 403(b) plans and their participants.

The Forest Preserve District received a check for $1.1 million on Friday, June 2, that will pave the way for a new trail linking the District’s longest path with Route 66 in Joliet Township.

U.S. Rep. Bill Foster presented the check during a ceremony along the proposed trail route in the Preston Heights area, just south of Laraway Elementary School on Rowell Avenue. 

WASHINGTON, June 2 (Reuters) - The latest standoff over the U.S. debt ceiling, resolved just days before the government faced a devastating default, has prompted some to call for the country to ditch its self-imposed borrowing limit.

That's not likely to happen any time soon.

BELVIDERE — A federal deal to raise the debt ceiling will have a trickle down effect to the Stateline area.

Prior to the deal coming to the house floor for a final vote, lawmakers had to approve a "rule" which essentially means a deal and parameters to bring an item to the floor for a vote. The vote for that rule is where Republicans hit a snag.

​The House adopted a rule for floor debate on the debt ceiling and spending curbs package after Democrats flooded in to keep the measure on track at the last minute.
