“Today, the House will be taking up the 2026 Homeland Security funding bill. After reviewing the text of the legislation, I will be voting NO.

“Last year, Republicans’ ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ increased ICE’s funding to exceed some countries’ military budgets. Since then, ICE operations have terrorized U.S. citizens and immigrants in our communities in Illinois, Minnesota, and across the country. ICE must be held accountable for its rampant abuses of power, not rewarded with more funding.

On Friday, Jan. 16, the Naperville Heritage Society kicked off a year of historic celebration at Naper Settlement commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with a flag-raising ceremony.

A commemorative America250 Flag was raised at Naper Settlement with the help of the Naperville Combined American Legion Post 43/Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 Color Guard.

Members of the Naperville American Legion Post 43 and Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 hoisted the U.S. flag and a commemorative 250th flag, following remarks from several community leaders.

“I voted YES to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits and stop health care premiums from skyrocketing for Illinois families. After deliberate inaction from the Republican-controlled Congress, ACA tax credits were allowed to expire at the beginning of this year. Today’s vote was Congress’ last opportunity to pass a clean, three-year extension and reverse these premium increases.
