"I opposed this legislation because it did not provide real solutions to our current immigration crises. It would have exacerbated the current humanitarian crisis on our border as children continue to spend the night in metal cages away from their parents. It also did not provide a solution to the hundreds of thousands of DREAMers.

"I voted for this legislation because it provides a critical expansion of medication-assisted treatment for individuals who struggle with opioid dependency by expanding the types and number of medical providers who have the authority to prescribe buprenorphine to treat opioid dependency. I am also pleased that my bipartisan legislation was included in the final bill.

The funding is provided as part of the Child Care Access Means Parents in School Program (CCAMPIS). The CCAMPIS program helps to provide child care options for student-parents enrolled in higher education.
