WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) released the following statement on the 2018 Omnibus Appropriations Act:
"I supported this omnibus bill, which represents a clear and final rejection of President Trump's flawed budget. It includes funding for critical areas, including infrastructure, election protection, scientific research, and treatment for opioid addiction. It also gives our military servicemen and women a well-deserved raise.
WASHINGTON, DC – This week, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) offered an amendment in the Financial Services Committee to make the Volcker Rule more effective. Currently, a committee of five regulators writes the rule, and each holds veto power. This rulemaking procedure has led to regulations that are delayed, inconsistent, and more complicated than necessary. The amendment would consolidate authority for future rulemaking at the Federal Reserve without altering the substance of the Volcker Rule.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) and Congressman Steve Stivers (R-OH) introduced H.R. 5340, the Support Technology & Research for Our Nation's Growth and Economic Resilience (STRONGER) Patent Act, to strengthen the United States' patent system. The legislation would implement reforms to the current patent system through improvement of the administrative review proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) released the following statement on President Trump's opioid plan.
"This public health crisis has touched every state, community, and Congressional district. Individuals who suffer from dependency need fewer empty words and more adequate funding for scientific research and treatment options. It is logically impossible to accept all 56 recommendations of the President's Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis without an increase in funding.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) reintroduced a bipartisan resolution in honor of Pi Day, March 14. Pi (represented by the Greek letter π) is an irrational number representing the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle that mathematicians, architects, engineers, and scientists use in calculations. Although the decimal digits of π continue randomly forever, the number is commonly rounded to 3.14, making March 14 the appropriate day to celebrate the number.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) released the following statement for the national gun violence walkout:
WASHINGTON, DC - I am deeply concerned about reports that the Environmental Protection Agency will eliminate the National Center for Environmental Research. From day one, this administration has sought to weaken and outright eliminate science departments and programs, and this reorganization is no different. It is irresponsible to the future of this country to use the guise of efficiency and reorganization as excuses to weaken scientific inquiry.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) announced funding authorization for crucial projects at two national labs in Illinois. The Accelerating American Leadership in Science Act of 2017 authorizes funding for Argonne's Advanced Photon Source upgrade and Fermilab's Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF). It also authorizes funding for the Spallation Neutron Source upgrade at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.
WASHINGTON, DC - As expected, President Trump's budget proposes to follow up massive Republican tax cuts for the wealthy with cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, science, and education, while wasting countless taxpayer dollars on his wall with Mexico and unchecked military spending.
