Press Releases
Washington, DC - This week, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) hosted a teletown hall on the Trump Administration's recent executive orders on immigration, refugees, and the construction of a wall on the Mexican border. Over 4,000 people from the 11th District participated in the discussion.
Washington, DC - I am deeply concerned about President Trump's executive order intended to undermine the financial regulations enacted after the 2008 economic crisis. Reforms like the Dodd-Frank Act allow for effective oversight of Wall Street, protecting against the kind of economic recession that cost millions of jobs for working families.
Washington, DC - I strongly disagree with the order. It poses a grave threat to our values and our economy. Since 1975, zero people have been killed by terrorist attacks on American soil by immigrants from the seven countries affected by Trump's Executive Order, showing just how misplaced the priorities of the Trump Administration are.
Washington, DC - I am deeply troubled by early reports that our scientific community is facing threats from the new presidential administration.
Washington, DC - I strongly condemn the construction of a wall with Mexico and any action that provokes fear into the lives of our immigrant communities. This wall is useless and antithetical to the core values of our country. Our country thrives on the innovation, culture, and diversity that immigrants from all walks of life bring to the United States.
Washington, DC - After careful consideration, I have decided to attend the Inauguration of the 45th President of the United States to mark the peaceful transfer of power that has always defined the strength of our democracy and respect for the Office of the Presidency.
Washington, DC - Today, I voted against a Republican budget proposal that would expand the national debt over $9.5 trillion and would begin the process to repeal the Affordable Care Act and defund Planned Parenthood. This budget resolution will have disastrous consequences for the American people.
Washington, DC - Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement on the 115th Congress:
"At the beginning of the 115th Congress, there are clear signs that Republicans will repeal much of the legislation that has improved the quality of life for so many Americans.
This reported nomination is just another example of the Republican Party's difficult relationship with science. As the only PhD scientist in Congress, I am deeply concerned at the long-term damage this decision will have on our environment. The science is very clear – climate change is real, and human activity is a major contributor.
