Press Releases
WASHINGTON, DC - A first look at the Republican tax plan confirms all of our worst fears. It would push trillions of dollars of additional debt onto our children. It would raise taxes for hardworking families in Illinois while giving a tax cut to corporations and the wealthiest families and their children. The end of the alternative minimum tax will mean that wealthy people will once again be able to hire tax lawyers to slash or entirely eliminate their taxes. Illinois families and homeowners would be crushed by changes to the SALT and mortgage interest deductions.
WASHINGTON, DC - I applaud President Trump's decision to declare what too many communities in Illinois and across American already know – the opioid crisis is a public health emergency. But if President Trump is serious about helping the individuals and their families who suffer from opioid dependence, he needs to commit the financial resources that communities need to fight it.
WASHINGTON, DC - As a businessman and the only PhD scientist in Congress, I always look to the facts to make thoughtful policy decisions, and the claim that the Republican budget will grow the economy and help the middle class is not based on facts. This budget will inflict hardship on millions of Americans while paving the way for tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires – tax breaks that history shows will not help grow our economy or create jobs.
NAPERVILLE, IL - Last night, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) hosted an interfaith panel discussion on how our communities can effectively oppose hatred, prejudice, and bigotry.
More than 200 people were on hand to hear from a panel of local religious leaders and members of the Naperville community.
WASHINGTON, DC - As the only PhD physicist in Congress, I supported the Iran Deal after a review of its technical enforceability and its ability to functionally dismantle Iran's nuclear weapons program. It has succeeded in every aspect of what was agreed to and has made the world safer thanks to the broad international coalition that made this deal a reality.
WASHINGTON, DC - For seven years, the Republican Party promised us a better health care plan with lower costs and better coverage. When they failed to live up to their promises, all that President Trump could deliver was a cruel slap in the face to millions of Americans who depend on these payments for lifesaving care. It is blatantly wrong to punish the American people just because the Republicans who control Congress failed to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) announced that Yasmeen Hussain will join his Washington, DC office. She is sponsored by the Biophysical Society as part of the Congressional Science & Engineering Fellows Program that is managed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Hussain completed her doctorate in Biology at the University of Washington and recently worked with the Board on Higher Education and Workforce at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
WASHINGTON, DC - We woke up to unimaginable news this morning. We stand in solidarity with Las Vegas today. We will mourn those we lost too soon and will keep their families and friends close to our hearts. But we cannot accept these tragedies as normal. There is no reason why a fun night at a concert should turn into a death sentence. We owe it to the memory of everyone who died to make sure we do everything we can to prevent another mass shooting.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) introduced the bipartisan Smarter EPSCoR Act to ensure research dollars are distributed in an equitable manner. Congressman Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ) is also an original cosponsor of the bill. The legislation would correct the formula that determines eligibility for EPSCoR program funding so that it is based on a per-capita basis instead of a per-state basis. This change would give priority to researchers in states that are genuinely under-represented in NSF research grants regardless of the state's population.
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement on President Trump's decision to end the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program.
