The U.S. Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory celebrated three important construction milestones yesterday that will increase the lab’s research efficiencies and capabilities. In attendance at the “Building Fermilab’s Future” ceremony in Batavia were representatives from the DOE Office of Science, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and local officials, including U.S. Reps. Sean Casten and Bill Foster, and national and international partners and collaborators.
Gov. Pritzker and other local legislators joined DOE officials at Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois, for the opening of two new buildings and the groundbreaking of another to usher in a new era of science.
The Fox Valley Park District will get $4 million in federal funds to build a bridge linking bike paths on both sides of the Fox River.
The money will go to a bike and pedestrian bridge in Lippold Park, in Batavia along the East Bank of the river, to connect with the bike and pedestrian path along the West Bank of the river.
The money is from the federal Community Funding Project, and was secured by the office of U.S. Rep. Bill Foster, D-Naperville. It was one of 15 projects funded through Foster’s office - the entire 15 that his office proposed.
The Fox Valley Park District and our Board of Commissioners remain committed to trail connectivity with the end goal of linking cyclists and pedestrians from Points A to B – throughout the District’s 48-mile network – without the need for dismount or detour. Thanks to Congressman Bill Foster and his office’s advocacy of this ongoing initiative, a significant gap will be bridged (quite literally) to connect two sections of the popular Fox River Trail in North Aurora.
Naperville, IL – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) joined every member of the Illinois Congressional Delegation in sending a letter to President Biden urging the White House to grant Governor J.B. Pritzker’s request for federal assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for five counties. The letter follows tornadoes, high winds, hail, and flash floods that caused widespread damage across Boone, Crawford, DuPage, Marion, and Sangamon Counties and led to four fatalities.
Aurora, IL – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) announced that the National Science Foundation awarded $1,449,994 to Aurora University for their Community Network Practices to Cultivate Resilient STEM Educators project. In an effort to help address the shortage of high-quality STEM teachers nationwide, this project will recruit, prepare, and support high-achieving secondary STEM education students from local institutions.
Geneva, IL – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement after meeting with Kevin Burns, the mayor of Geneva:
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) announced the reintroduction of a bipartisan resolution in honor of Pi Day, March 14.
Pi (represented by the Greek letter π) is an irrational number representing the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle that mathematicians, architects, engineers, and scientists use in calculations. Although the decimal digits of π continue forever, the number is commonly rounded to 3.14, making March 14 the appropriate day to celebrate the number.
