The Forest Preserve District of Will County has received $1.1 million that will pave the way for a new trail linking the district’s longest path with Route 66 in Joliet Township.

U.S. Rep. Bill Foster, D-Ill., presented the check during a ceremony June 2 along the proposed trail route in the Preston Heights area, just south of Laraway Elementary School on Rowell Avenue.

The 1.34-mile, multiuse trail will be built on a ComEd utility corridor that links the forest preserve’s 22.42-mile Wauponsee Glacial Trail with Route 53/Chicago Street, which is historic Route 66.

If you were told 15 months ago that the Fed would raise rates by 5 percentage points, walloping financial markets and triggering bank failures, it would have been a surprise.

The ceremony began with the Presentation of Colours, the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, and the singing of the national anthem. The Lima Lima flight team performed a flyover in tribute to the families.

A new bill introduced in Congress would allow 403(b) plans maintained by tax-exempt organizations to make use of collective investment trust (CIT) investments—an alternative to mutual funds that may provide significant cost savings for 403(b) plans and their participants. The recently enacted SECURE 2.0 Act took the first steps along this path by making amendments to the Internal Revenue Code to permit 403(b) plans to invest in these vehicles; however, that legislation failed to include the necessary changes to securities laws.
