WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL), Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), and Congressman Mark Takano (D-CA) introduced the bipartisan GI Education Benefits Fairness Act. This legislation would align definitions of an eligible child in the Veterans Administration and Department of Defense for the purposes of the education benefit transfer.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) called on Scott Pruitt to rescind a directive to remove scientists from the Environmental Protection Agency's advisory boards in a bipartisan letter signed by 61 Members of Congress. Last week, Scott Pruitt announced that scientists who received grants from the EPA could not serve on the EPA's science advisory boards. These advisory boards inform regulations through the technical expertise these scientists provide.

Three weeks ago, President Trump announced his refusal to certify to Congress Iran's compliance with the nuclear deal formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the grounds that he does not believe that it is in our national interest—despite his acknowledgement that Iran is in full compliance with the terms of the agreement. WASHINGTON, DC - The opioid crisis touches every community in the United States, including my district in Illinois. To stop it, we need multifaceted solutions. The report's broad and inclusive recommendations provide a good blueprint for action. WASHINGTON, DC - A first look at the Republican tax plan confirms all of our worst fears. It would push trillions of dollars of additional debt onto our children. It would raise taxes for hardworking families in Illinois while giving a tax cut to corporations and the wealthiest families and their children. The end of the alternative minimum tax will mean that wealthy people will once again be able to hire tax lawyers to slash or entirely eliminate their taxes. Illinois families and homeowners would be crushed by changes to the SALT and mortgage interest deductions.

Argonne National Laboratory near Lemont is celebrating two milestones: the 75th anniversary of the world's first nuclear chain reaction and the 10th anniversary of a microscopic research center.

Many know of the Southland's connections to the 1940s experiments that were instrumental in the development of the two nuclear bombs dropped on Japan in 1945.

The first chain reaction was a key event that helped bring about the end of World War II. It occurred on Dec. 2, 1942, beneath the bleachers of Stagg Field at the University of Chicago campus in Hyde Park.

WASHINGTON, DC - As a businessman and the only PhD scientist in Congress, I always look to the facts to make thoughtful policy decisions, and the claim that the Republican budget will grow the economy and help the middle class is not based on facts. This budget will inflict hardship on millions of Americans while paving the way for tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires – tax breaks that history shows will not help grow our economy or create jobs.

WASHINGTON, DC - I applaud President Trump's decision to declare what too many communities in Illinois and across American already know – the opioid crisis is a public health emergency. But if President Trump is serious about helping the individuals and their families who suffer from opioid dependence, he needs to commit the financial resources that communities need to fight it.

Almost 200 people came out to Congregation Beth Shalom in Naperville for the Faces of Our Community: Interfaith and Anti-Hate Forum.

Illinois Representative Bill Foster led a panel of community members and religious leaders for an evening to discuss how to oppose prejudice, hate, and bigotry.

"This shows that people understand that there's a problem in the United States and that the best solution happens at the local level," said Foster. "To have everyone stand up and say, "this is not us."
