NAPERVILLE, IL - Last night, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) hosted an interfaith panel discussion on how our communities can effectively oppose hatred, prejudice, and bigotry.

More than 200 people were on hand to hear from a panel of local religious leaders and members of the Naperville community.

WASHINGTON, DC - For seven years, the Republican Party promised us a better health care plan with lower costs and better coverage. When they failed to live up to their promises, all that President Trump could deliver was a cruel slap in the face to millions of Americans who depend on these payments for lifesaving care. It is blatantly wrong to punish the American people just because the Republicans who control Congress failed to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

It has succeeded in every aspect of what was agreed to and has made the world safer thanks to the broad international coalition that made this deal a reality.

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) announced that Yasmeen Hussain will join his Washington, DC office. She is sponsored by the Biophysical Society as part of the Congressional Science & Engineering Fellows Program that is managed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Hussain completed her doctorate in Biology at the University of Washington and recently worked with the Board on Higher Education and Workforce at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

WASHINGTON, DC - We woke up to unimaginable news this morning. We stand in solidarity with Las Vegas today. We will mourn those we lost too soon and will keep their families and friends close to our hearts. But we cannot accept these tragedies as normal. There is no reason why a fun night at a concert should turn into a death sentence. We owe it to the memory of everyone who died to make sure we do everything we can to prevent another mass shooting.

For Batavia veteran Larry Orsborn, attending the wellness fair in Aurora Thursday for veterans was the "right thing to do."

"Unfortunately there are not a lot of 'outside' people who know as much about the resources available as the people that are here do," Orsborn said.

Each day, more than 90 Americans die from heroin and opioid overdoses. In my home state of Illinois, there were 1,835 overdose deaths in 2015 — a 16 percent increase in just two years. New synthetic versions of heroin like fentanyl and carfentanil are exacerbating the crisis. Overdose deaths from these drugs increased by over 70 percent from 2014 to 2015. Just last month, President Trump called the opioid crisis a national emergency.
